Biography

Klaus Meier is born 1950 in Germany and has finished after high school the studies of theology with the master in 1975, has finished as candidate studies of paedagogics and the studies of pharmacy in 1981 with the approbation from the ministry of health in Kiel. After some experiences in community pharmacies he started as hospital pharmacist in 1982 and became a certified Clinical Pharmacist after 6 years practical experiences and continuous education in 1989. 1988 he implemented the centralised Cytotoxic service as one of the first in Germany in the General Hospital of Hamburg-Harburg. He attended the ISOPP symposia since the second in Exeter 1990 and founded the German Oncology Pharmacy Conference named NZW in 1993. Since that day´s it became a well known meeting in Europe with yearly over 900 attendees. He was also responsible to implement the specialisation for “Oncology Pharmacy” in Germany in 2001. From 1996 until 2001 he acted as Director ans sinece 2012 again as Vicedirector of the Institute for Applied Healthcare Sciences (IFAHS) in Hamburg. He served the ISOPP (International Society of Oncology Pharmacy Practitioners) from 1997 as President Elect, from 1998 to 2000 as President and since 2000 he is the founding president of the ESOP (European Society of Oncology Pharmacy). In 2001 the ESOP full membership in ECCO. From 2008 to 2012 he acted as member of the board of directors of European CanCer Organisation (ECCO). In 2012 he became fellow of the European Academy of Canceer Sciences (EACS). He has published several books and articles in Oncology Pharmacy in special about: - the development of practical experiences in preparing cytotoxic drugs, - in supporting occupational health medicine in expanding a better service for workers and - to evolve the European understanding of Oncology Pharmacy in all areas. - In 2001, 2004 and 2008 meetings have been held at the EU-commission in Luxembourg - 5 Editions of the QuapoS (Quality standard for oncology pharmacy Service) have been published since 1996 in 27 languages - he is editor-in-chief of the EJOP (European Journal of Oncology Pharmacy) In 2002 he became General Manager of all pharmacies in community hospitals in Hamburg (Germany) serving nearly 6000 beds in general and with more than 40000 preparations for cancer patients yearly. Since January 2006 he is Head of the Department for Clinical and Hospital Pharmacy in the Heidekreis-Klinikum GmbH in Soltau., Lower Saxony
